Blur text in an image. It never leaves your browser.

Hide names, numbers and emails with a black box, pixelation or blur. Free, with no upload and no account.

Black box, pixelate or blur?

They look similar, but they don’t protect you equally.

Black box

Replaces the pixels with solid black, so nothing of the text is left in the file. Use it for passwords, card numbers, addresses and anything else you can’t afford to expose.

Pixelate

Rebuilds the area from large square blocks. It looks tidy and is fine for casual privacy, but short, predictable text such as numbers can sometimes be guessed from pixelated blocks.

Blur

Softens the area so it blends into the image. It looks the most natural and hides the least, so keep it for text that isn’t really secret, like a sign in the background.

When people hide text in an image

Screenshots for support and bug reports

Hide email addresses, account names and tokens before you send a screenshot to a vendor or post it in a public issue.

Slides and documentation

Cover customer names and internal figures so a real screen can go into a deck or a help article.

Photos for listings and posts

Cover a house number, a licence plate or a name on a parcel before a photo goes online.

Sharing with a colleague

Keep one sensitive line out of an image that everything else in the team needs to see.

How to blur text in an image

  1. 1

    Choose an image

Pick a PNG, JPEG or WebP. It opens in this tab, and nothing is sent to our servers.

  2. 2

    Drag across the text

Choose black box, pixelate or blur, then drag over each piece of text. Undo removes the last one.

  3. 3

    Check and download

Zoom in and make sure every character is covered, then download the PNG.

What this tool won’t do

It doesn’t find text for you

You mark each area by hand, so check the whole image for anything you missed, including reflections and thumbnails.

It can’t change other copies

Hiding text here doesn’t affect versions you have already sent or posted.

It isn’t a redaction service

For legal or regulated documents, follow your organization’s redaction process.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is read and edited by your browser using the canvas built into it. Nothing is sent to our servers, and closing the tab discards it.

Do I need an account or credits?

No. This tool is free and needs no sign-in, because it costs us nothing to run. Editing words with AI is a separate tool that uses credits.

Which is safest: black box, pixelate or blur?

The black box. It replaces the pixels completely. Pixelation and blur keep some information from the original, which can be enough to guess short or predictable text.

Can someone undo a black box in the downloaded file?

No. The download is a flat PNG, with no layers and no copy of the pixels under the box.

Does the download keep my photo’s metadata?

No. The file is drawn fresh from the canvas, so location and camera details from the original aren’t carried over.

What quality is the download?

It has the same width and height as your original. It saves as PNG, which is lossless, so a JPEG photo may produce a larger file.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Drag with your finger across the text. A larger screen makes small text easier to cover accurately.

Can I replace the text instead of hiding it?

Yes, with our AI image text editor. Type the old words and the new ones, and it redraws them to match the lettering in your image.
